Protruding ears is a common deformation that can be connected to mental strain. Therefore, treatment should ideally occur at the pre-school age of 4-6 years, while growth is almost complete and there will be no more post-operative growth disturbance. As a result, the operation is possible from the age of four.
Procedure: Many different internationally accepted and standardised methods are used, but it is worth mentioning that all are based on the same principle. Namely the thinning of the cartilage in the anthelix area (curvature in the ear cartilage). The operation can be done on an out-patient basis under local anaesthetic and lasts about an hour.
